Lupita Nyong'o to Star in Remake of John Woo's Action Classic 'The Killer'

02 May, 2018

She may have found her calling in The Killer, a remake of John Woo's 1989 classic film that paved the way for Woo to direct Hollywood movies. This role was played by Chow Yun-fat in the original version.

The original Hong Kong crime thriller followed an assassin who has lost all hope after accidentally blinding a singer. The two fall in love, and he decides to perform one last hit in order to pay for a corneal transplant to prevent her from going blind. Producing alongside Woo and his A Better Tomorrow Films is eOne's Mark Gordon and Lori Tilkin. Luc Etienne is executive producing. The new script is from Eran Creevy, working off a draft by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. In The Killer, she will play the assassin who puts her own life on the line to save a woman whom she accidentally blinded in her last hit. Oscar victor Nyong'o is coming off "Black Panther" and a CGI cameo in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi", and can next be seen in "Little Monsters". The movie is reportedly being fast-tracked, but hopefully, they take the time and care to have this top the original and all the films it inspired, which will be no easy feat. Universal VP Production Sara Scott will oversee for the studio.
