Telegram says Apple has prevented it from updating since April

Russian Telecom Watchdog Gives Apple One Month to Respond to Request to Remove Telegram from App Store
Apple is blocking Telegram updates worldwide

04 June, 2018

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov says that Apple has stopped approving updates for its mobile app on a worldwide basis.

Because Apple is now blocking Telegram updates globally, Durov said that his team can't fix certain issues in the app and its users can't get new features, nor Telegram's new GDPR-compliant privacy policy.

He went on to allege that Apple had "prevented" updates to the Telegram app on a global basis after Russian officials ordered the platform removed from Tim Cook's walled garden.

Russian authorities have ordered domestic internet service providers to block the app, causing disruption of other services but failing to shut down Telegram in the country.

Unfortunately, this block has affected all Telegram users. Apple, according to a report this week, has one month from May 28 to comply with a request to remove it completely. As yet, neither have responded. Mostly due to the fact that it was banned for refusing to hand over private encryption keys that would allow the Kremlin to spy on users.

"As a result, we've also been unable to fully comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for our EU-users by the deadline of May 25, 2018".
