The third most popular mobile network in the USA, T-Mobile, has suffered a data breach that affected more than two million of its customers. Credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and social security numbers were not involved.
T-Mobile is informing customers of the breach "out an abundance of caution", but isn't viewing this as a major incident.
"Our cyber-security team discovered and shut down an unauthorized access to certain information, including yours, and we promptly reported it to authorities", T-Mobile says.
T-Mobile's cybersecurity team learned of the incident on August 20 and shut down the unauthorized access. However, the personal information that may have been taken includes names, billing zip codes, phone numbers, email addresses, account numbers, and account types (prepaid or postpaid). Once a hacker has your account number, phone number, and email address, it's easier for them to obtain your login information.
