Speaking after Bolt's two-goal display Friday, Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp stressed that "it was too early to tell" if the club would offer him a full-time deal.

On October 13, Valletta's ownership group Sanban Investment Group, based in Abu Dhabi, offered 32-year-old Bolt a two-year deal.

Many questioned how far Bolt's obsession with becoming a professional footballer would go, but there seems to be little doubt now as to whether or not he could make it at the highest level.

"So guys I've retired from track and field looking to become a footballer but look at this", Bolt said via an Instagram story as he zoomed in on the notice, which appears to have been issued by the FFA.

"A champion is always welcome and at Valletta FC we believe nothing is impossible", ESPN quoted Valletta managing director and CEO Ghasston Slimen as saying.

"They've seen me in training, they've seen what I'm capable of, so they need to analyse and say, 'Is he good enough?' and they will tell me that", Bolt told reporters.

A Mariners' spokesman said there was no change in Bolt's position at the club, describing reports that he might quit his trial as "rumours".

"It's very much, the ball in the Mariners' court".

The 100m world record-holder quit athletics a year ago and is yet to be offered a deal by Australia's Central Coast Mariners, where he is now on trial.
