House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will support a proposal to implement term limits for Democrats holding senior positions in the House of Representatives, her office announced Wednesday, a deal that will likely see her become the chamber's next speaker.

In a rare public argument, Trump bickered with US Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi about funding for his proposed border wall.

The two leaders said in a joinT statement Monday night that Trump knows the votes aren't there to approve the roughly $5 billion in funding for the wall that he is seeking as part of a deal to avert another government shutdown.

More recently, Trump again demanded support for the wall, and accused Democrats of enabling criminals and drug dealers, as a caravan of thousands of Central American migrants bore down on the United States border this fall.

Funding for 20% of the government and the Department of Homeland Security (which will oversee the construction of any border wall) is at stake with funding about to expire on December 21.

After Ms Pelosi and Mr Schumer noted Democratic success in the midterm elections, the president asked whether Republicans had won the Senate in the November election.

Trump tweeted Wednesday: "Another very bad terror attack in France".

The meeting did not last long after reporters were ushered out of the Oval Office. While Trump's fellow Republicans control both the House and the Senate until next month, Democratic support is needed to pass any spending legislation. "We are going to strengthen our borders even more".

However, that will not be legally binding and Tusk went on to warn: "We will not renegotiate the deal, including the backstop".

Ayers had always been discussed as the individual who would replace John Kelly , who will be leaving by the end of the year . With four likely front-runners out of the race, the field has opened up to several candidates outside of the White House.

The California Democrat says she believes the House Ways and Means Committee will "take the first steps" toward getting the documents.

If Trump rejects that, Democrats are urging a continuing resolution that would fund all the remaining appropriations bills at current levels through September 30.

"If we close the country, I will take it because we're closing it down for border security and I think I win that every single time", Trump said later. After the meeting, Schumer told reporters, "This temper tantrum that he seems to throw will not get him his wall".

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has in the past said Israel's wall on the border with Egypt, built to stem the flow of illegal African migrants, could serve as a model for the U.S. She noted that Mr Trump promised during the 2016 campaign that Mexico would pay for the wall, an idea Mexico has repeatedly rejected.

Later in the day on Capitol Hill, Ms. Pelosi, according to a Democratic aide, said: "It was so wild".

Tuesday's televised bout offered a tantalizing preview of divided government in Trump's Washington. Under the deal, House Democrats will vote by February 15 to change party rules to limit their top three leaders to no more than four two-year terms, including time they've already spent in those jobs.

Thursday morning, Trump tweeted that Mexico would still technically pay for the wall, through the additional money the USA will make from the not-yet-ratified United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement.
