A winter storm warning has been issued for areas along and west of a line from Granite Falls to St. Cloud to near Hinckley for Wednesday night through Friday with a foot or more of snow possible.

A snow band is forming in southeastern North Dakota and into western Minnesota and is expected to continue southeastward. Those falling temps may cause a few problems going into Friday night with that water, or bit of snow accumulation, sitting around and then freezing going into the night. Reduced visibility due to blowing snow is likely Thursday into early Friday morning. Around the Red River Valley, Speicher said there was about 4-8 inches of snow that gathered overnight.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation road conditions website, www.511mn.org, showed area roads to either be partially covered or completely covered in slush or snow around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. A winter storm warning may be required for these regions later.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the central and south Cascades through Thursday morning. Wind gusts in the Albuquerque metro area and Santa Fe are expected to reach up to 60 miles per hour causing blowing snow and whiteout conditions.

A significant Winter Storm is expected Thursday night into Friday night.

December temperatures have been mild, with daytime highs ranging from 19 degrees to 48 degrees and snowfall limited to a trace or less than a half-inch of snow.

It will be a colder day with highs reaching about 30 degrees with a nasty north wind of 15-30 miles per hour. Highs will top out in the low-40s, but the temps will oddly continue to rise as we head through the night. Kalin says it could deliver more than eight inches of snow to some locations.
