National Weather Service Says the Chances are Improving for Weekend Snow

Before the weekend storm moves into the area, snow showers are expected Thursday night into Friday with accumulations of one to three inches.

"Today's going to be the first of what looks to be three rounds of snow, maybe even a little bit of rain through Sunday", he said. Szatkowski is the former meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for several counties, including Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Genesee, Wayne and Wyoming.

Some rugged winter conditions are expected for much of western NY and the Finger Lakes heading into the weekend, and lasting into the first part of next week.

The first storm could drop between a coating to an inch of snow late Thursday into Friday morning before shifting to rain across MA, according to meteorologist Josh Wurster.

The snow is expected to start after 10 a.m. Saturday, and possibly turn into a mix of freezing rain and sleet in the evening, according to the NWS.

Due to the fact that the track of the storm is not totally hammered down just yet, the types of precipitation and the amounts of precipitation we are likely to see are still up in the air.

Timing: Starting in NW Iowa by late Friday morning, Starting in central Iowa by the late afternoon Friday.

Behind the departing system Sunday, the weather service warns that much colder air will be ushered in southward across the region. A flash freeze will be possible Monday as temperatures crash freezing the water leftover by the rain.
