Today, DxOMark, a well-known camera evaluation agency, announced on its official website that it designed test benchmark for smartphone front-facing cameras to provide consumers with a reliable test data to help them understand the performance of selfie cameras.
The challenge with front-facing cameras is the relatively short distance - often arm's length - from sensor to subject.
DxOMark is the place where your smartphone's selfie cameras can be tested and report can be obtained.
Such a development can also be considered as a coming of age of the selfie camera considering that the front cam usually isn't accorded the same importance as say the rear cam. DxOMark officially introduced DxOMark Selfie based on DxOMark Mobile's test procedures and methods and made some important corrections to reflect the unique use of the front camera.
DxOMark tested 12 smartphones for its first round of reviews, and they were from across a wide range of markets and brands.

Apple's iPhone XS Max has one of the best cameras in a smartphone - as long as you're not pointing it at yourself. It is now changing with the introduction of DxOMark Selfie test protocol.
Raised issues include noise, white balance, and skin rendering.
The testing of the selfie cameras is done by clicking some 1500 photos and video recordings that run for 2 hours and this is done for each of the phones taken up for testing. The Galaxy Note 9 is said to have better results for exposure and colour, though.
When it comes to videos from the front camera, Note 9 takes an edge due to a superior stabilization than the Google Pixel 3.
