Authorities want to know why a twin-engine plane broke up in the sky and slammed into a Southern California house on Sunday, killing five people.

Clint Langford, another neighbor, recalled hearing a low rumbling sound right before the crash.

"Local authorities say there are injuries on the ground", Kenitzer said.

The debris field spanned about four blocks, he said. "And then all of a sudden boom".

Two people were confirmed dead, the Orange County Fire Authority reported. They planned to search the burned house in case there were additional victims, Sanchez said.
