Apex Legends can be played on PC, PS4 and Xbox One right now for free but it comes with some drawbacks.

What would you like to see in the next Titanfall game? Each of the eight characters (or Legends) has their own abilities, including tracking enemies, deploying decoys and using toxic gas. For now the only game type is three-person squads and you take turns before the match picking your class with no option to choose the same class as your teammates. It follows the suit of popular battle royale games like Fortnite and PUBG, but also added a spin to the survival game format.

There are no pilotable mechs in the game.

Following rumours regarding its existence, Respawn has confirmed that it is launching a free-to-play battle royale game called Apex Legends.

Apex Legends delivers a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. According to Kotaku, Apex Legends will play like: "Titanfall mixed with Overwatch and Blackout from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4".

Despite Respawn's comments, some players may find themselves disappointed by the way in which Apex Legends locks off two of the eight playable characters behind a paywall.

With the (no so) surprise release of Apex Legends this week, Respawn Entertainment have finally unveiled what they've been working on since they shipped Titanfall 2 back in 2016.

It should be noted that some issues have been raised with the new system, with some Apex Legends players still not finding their friends after linking accounts. "You can earn a total of 45 Apex Packs from Player Levels 1 - 100". This wasn't the game they [EA] expecting.

EA says that the first season will start in March, though it's not yet clear which items you'll be able to get from the Battle Pass just yet or how much the Battle Pass will cost.
