Special Counsel Robert Mueller submitted his long-awaited report on the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential race and possible collusion with Trump associates on Friday, March 22.
The Justice Department informed lawmakers in a brief letter that Mueller has submitted a confidential report to Attorney General William Barr detailing the decisions his team made to prosecute or not prosecute those who were investigated.
"The next steps are up to Attorney General Barr, and we look forward to the process taking its course".
Comey said the publication of Mueller's report should demonstrate to Trump "that the United States has a justice system that works because there are people who believe in it and rise above personal interest and tribalism".
Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) said that the report should be released "without delay", and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-N.Y.) and Sen.
The last president to be impeached by the House, Democrat Bill Clinton, was acquitted by the Senate in 1999 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, meaning he was not removed from office.

"We urge the Department of Justice to release the report swiftly, once it has minimally redacted any information that is properly withheld".
Mueller is, however, not expected to recommend any further indictments.
Comey, who was sacked by Trump from the Federal Bureau of Investigation in May 2017, triggering the appointment of Mueller, continued to pull no punches in his assessment of Trump's leadership, branding him a "chronic liar who repeatedly attacks the rule of law". Instead, Comey stresses, he wants a "resounding" defeat of Trump in 2020 to restore "the belief that the president of the United States can not be a chronic liar who repeatedly attacks the rule of law".
No matter the findings in Mueller's report, the investigation has already illuminated Russia's assault on the American political system, painted the Trump campaign as eager to exploit the release of hacked Democratic emails and exposed lies by Trump aides aimed at covering up their Russia-related contacts. Conservative pundits, however, seemed to have one general consensus: that the entire Russian Federation probe was nothing more than a witch hunt.
"No one, not even a president, is above the law", said Vanita Gupta, the group's president and CEO, in a statement.
"Let it come out, let people see it", the president told reporters on Wednesday.
Gates, a key Mueller witness, continues to cooperate in several ongoing investigations, prosecutors said this month. No president has every been removed from office via impeachment.
