In yet another odd twist, the troubled actor's case has pitted two key figures in the former president's White House - who happen to be political heavy hitters in Chicago - against one another now that charges that Smollett faked a hate crime have been dropped.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told ABC News on Wednesday in a separate interview that he wanted "get to the bottom", of what happened in the Smollett case, adding that the actor "abused" the city of Chicago by claiming to have been vindicated. You know, I think police had minimal investigation in this case, it took me only five minutes to Google.

Chicago's police union has called for a federal investigation into Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx over her involvement in the case and text messages she exchanged with Smollett family friends before she recused herself in mid-February. "The only reason why Jussie Smollett thought he could get away with a hoax about a hate crime was because of the environment that President Trump created, " Emanuel said.
Investigators later charged Smollett with paying the two men to pretend to attack him in order to garner public sympathy for himself. He said that once city attorneys finalize the number, the city will contact Smollett and his attorneys. "So, it's not - it's not implausible", she told Guthrie. He also slammed the State Attorney's decision, stating, "This is a whitewash of justice..."
For his part, Smollett has always maintained his innocence.
