Charges against Jussie Smollett have been dropped, one month after he was accused of faking a racist, homophobic attack, in which he was the victim, and lying to police about it.

In an early morning tweet announcing the review, Trump said the case had embarrassed the nation. Evidence of why the charges were dropped in the case is also expected to remain sealed.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told ABC News on Wednesday in a separate interview that he wanted "get to the bottom", of what happened in the Smollett case, adding that the actor "abused" the city of Chicago by claiming to have been vindicated. Nearly everyone thinks Jussie Smollett was handed a Get Out Of Jail free card after prosecutors slapped him only with the $10,000 he paid in bail and 16 hours of community service, but let go the whole false reporting of a hate crime thing.

Chicago's police union has called for a federal investigation into Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx over her involvement in the case and text messages she exchanged with Smollett family friends before she recused herself in mid-February. "The only reason why Jussie Smollett thought he could get away with a hoax about a hate crime was because of the environment that President Trump created, " Emanuel said.

Investigators later charged Smollett with paying the two men to pretend to attack him in order to garner public sympathy for himself. He said that once city attorneys finalize the number, the city will contact Smollett and his attorneys. "So, it's not - it's not implausible", she told Guthrie. He also slammed the State Attorney's decision, stating, "This is a whitewash of justice..."

For his part, Smollett has always maintained his innocence.
