The redesign follows Facebook's plans to change its image and reputation as a more private, intimate social network.

When he added that "I know that we don't exactly have the strongest reputation on privacy right now, to put it lightly", he was met with deafening silence and grinned awkwardly.

Zuckerberg and his chief lieutenant, Sheryl Sandberg, have apologised repeatedly over the past year for Facebook's ever-expanding list of mishaps over privacy, data misuse and security problems.

Facebook will add new features for certain groups.

WhatsApp now allows users to share their location with their friends and family via the app. Zuckerberg said locations, like the messages on WhatsApp, are encrypted.

In brief: Facebook has been hard at work on the next iteration of Messenger. It is also opening Instagram to its entire creator and developer ecosystem this summer. This feature allows you to find potential matches from your Facebook groups, friends of friends and more. "I'm encouraged they are thinking about privacy by design across the surfaces, such as Newsfeed and Marketplace, and not just WhatsApp, for example". It introduced "Away Mode" which gives users the option to temporarily back away from the platform during sensitive life events without needing to delete or deactivate an account. This new design makes the Facebook experience simpler, faster, and puts communities at the center.

Messenger will become a faster and lighter app, according to the firm.

Fidji Simo, head of the Facebook app, detailed some of the ways Facebook's update will encourage group interactions.

WhatsApp is also evolving in a business-focused direction, with businesses now able to show product catalog on the service.

Facebook will also launch a dedicated Messenger desktop application for Windows and MacOS, which will support group video calls and multitasking.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is declaring at the social networking company's biggest conference of the year that the "future is private".

Facebook has made some pretty major announcements at the opening of their F8 2019 developer conference as they continue to try and evolve the business and at the same time try to stop the continuous exodus of people unhappy with the platform.

Again, this move to push shoppers away from overt, display advertising into a community-based shopping experience guided by influencers will likely divert advertiser budgets from standalone brand profiles into more nuanced influencer marketing streams.

As a result, it would make Zuckerberg "personally accountable" for Facebook's future privacy dealings, Politico noted. Facebook Groups will be integrated so that users can meet people they share similar opinions with. Despite all the negative headlines, 2.38 billion people use Facebook each month.

In the long run, Facebook's shift to privacy is unlikely to topple its position as one half of the duopoly.

One casualty of the changes: the iconic blue Facebook banner that has appeared atop screens since the social network's 2004 debut. Facebook Dating is available in Colombia, Thailand, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Guyana, and Suriname. Other new Instagram changes include a new fundraiser feature in Instagram stories, and updates to the in-app camera feature.

"Privacy being considered for all of these use cases is encouraging". A lack of like count could impact how influencers engage with the platform specifically.
